As we age, our skin may feel rough and wrinkles starts to show. While we all want smooth skin, our skin type varies and may be influence may different factors such as pollution, skin care products, and internal elements, including health and diet. 1. Stay Hydrated


Drinking water improves your skin’s elasticity and reduces signs of dryness and roughness, resulting in smoother skin.


2. Get enough sleep

Stress can affect your skin's health especially when your not allowing your body to rest and recover. “Your body repairs itself and recovers from daily stress while you sleep, so not getting enough quality sleep can cause premature aging of the skin,” says Dr. Prather. 

Needless to say, it’s time you make beauty sleep a priority. Clock in seven to eight hours of quality sleep every night to rejuvenate your skin and your body.


3. Exercise

Animal and human studies have shown that regular exercise can improve the skin’s composition. It makes the skin’s outer layer thinner and thickens the inner layers — the opposite of what happens as we age. This results in smoother, younger-looking skin. It also helps reduce inflammation, regulate skin-significant hormones and prevent free radical damage. Plus, sweating is also a great way to purge pores of debris!

5. Improve your diet


Now that you are exercising regularly, it's time to fix your diet. Processed foods, alcohol and refined carbs contribute to the destruction of good bacteria and create an imbalance in your gut’s microbiome, leading to inflammation that can also manifest in your skin.

Instead, add more vitamins and antioxidants in your diet, in the form of berries and other bright-colored fruits and vegetables, to boost your skin’s defenses against free radical damage. Fish is also a good source of omega-3 fatty acids, which are essential for smooth, radiant skin.


6. Protect your skin against the effects of the sun

UV rays is bad for the skin. Most of the skin damaged on older patients are caused by unprotected sun exposure. Use sunscreen, limit your time in the sun, and wear protective clothing.
